Important things to know when considering telemedicine.
Copays and deductibles apply to telemedicine visit just like they would if you were seen in our office. You will be billed for these unless you have an outstanding balance on your account. If so, you will be asked to pay the balance and/or the copay prior the telemedicine (virtual) visit. Most insurance companies do not differentiate between in person and virtual visits so you should check with your insurance company for confirmation.
Your primary care copay is often times less than an Urgent Care copay. You can check with your insurance company for confirmation.
Excluded from telemedicine availability. Children under the age of 12 months.
Children under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present with them during the visit.
This service is for established patients of MOFMC. If you have been seen in our clinic for any reason, even if only walk-in clinic, you are considered an established patient and qualify for access to this service.
You must be located in the State of North Carolina at the time of the visit.
Telemedicine services are only provided during normal business hours. They are not provided after hours, on weekends or holidays.
How does it work?
At the time of your appointment, you will be sent a link via text message or email that you will use to access the visit. The text may come from an unknown number but the message will indicate which provider at our clinic you are connecting to.
The provider will wait 5 minutes for you to answer, if you do not or are unable to get your phone or computer to provide video and audio, the visit will have to be ended.
For walk in clinic visits. You will be placed on the waiting list with other patients in the clinic in order of check in time. You will essentially be in a virtual waiting room. When you are next on the list to be seen by a provider you will be sent a message or called by a member of our staff so that you can be ready when the provider sends you the link for the visit. If you do not respond to the link within five minutes you will miss the visit and will need to re-establish your place in line.
Patients must have a smart device (phone, laptop, desktop computer, ipad etc.) with camera AND microphone capabilities. These capabilities often need to be enabled by the user. Please ensure these are working prior to your appointment.
Disclaimer: Limitations on Telemedicine Services
Telemedicine services provide convenient access to healthcare professionals for non-emergency medical needs. However, they have limitations that may impact the quality or appropriateness of care in certain situations. By using telemedicine services, patients acknowledge and accept the following limitations:
- Diagnosis and Treatment Constraints: Telemedicine relies on information provided by the patient, without the benefit of a physical examination or certain diagnostic tools. Some symptoms or conditions may require an in-person visit for a full and accurate assessment.
- Emergency Situations: Telemedicine is not suitable for emergency medical issues, life- threatening conditions, or situations requiring immediate care. Patients experiencing such situations should call emergency services or go to the nearest emergency room.
- Privacy and Confidentiality Risks: While every effort is made to protect patient information, telemedicine sessions are transmitted over the internet and may have a small risk of interception or data breaches, despite security measures in place.
- Limited Access to Records: The healthcare provider may not have access to all of the patient's medical records, which can limit their ability to make fully informed decisions. Patients are encouraged to disclose all relevant health history during the consultation.
- State Regulations and Licensing: Telemedicine services may be restricted by state or country regulations, and providers may be limited to practicing in certain jurisdictions. Patients should verify that their provider is licensed to practice in their location.
- Insurance Limitations: Telemedicine services may not be fully covered by all insurance plans. Patients should confirm coverage and any out-of-pocket costs with their insurer prior to using telemedicine.
- Technical Difficulties: Telemedicine sessions require stable internet or phone connections. Interruptions or poor-quality connections can interfere with care and may result in delayed or incomplete treatment.
Disclaimer: This telemedicine service does not replace traditional face-to-face consultations and is intended as a supplementary means of accessing healthcare. By using telemedicine services, patients agree to these terms and understand that they may be referred to in-person care if deemed necessary by the provider.
Telemedicine is not for everyone and all situations especially those that may require lab work or x-rays.
The following are examples of conditions that may be treated via telemedicine. If you have additional symptoms or chronic illnesses you may not be eligible for telemedicine visits. If these are identified and/or the condition is more complicated, the visit may be terminated and you may be asked to come to the office for an in person visit.
